I CAN’T help wondering why there is any need to turn the Coast to Coast walk into a national trail (D&S Times, Apr 8 & 15). As far as I’m aware, it was the last thing that Alfred Wainwright wanted. He wanted people to devise their own routes across the country.
If, as Harry Mead suggests, certain parts of the route are becoming overdeveloped, then we should study our maps, and devise alternatives.
