THE articles about the restored Acklam Hall, Middlesbrough (D&S Times, Mar 25 and Apr 1) have been very interesting.

Could I add a small amount of information about the Hall prior to its use as King’s Manor School?

From 1683 until the early 1930s it was the family seat of the Hustler family and from 1935 until the 1970s it was Acklam Hall Grammar School which I, and many other readers, attended.

This year for the first time our Old Boys’ Reunion is being held at Acklam Hall in what used to be the school assembly hall (incidentally the ceilings in that room are even more impressive than in the salon where your restaurant reviewer Malcolm Warne dined).

We shall be very fortunate in having John Hustler as a guest.

Finally, I should like to say that for a number of years we have held our reunions at the Wainstones Hotel in Great Broughton and the service and food quality there was excellent, but, of course, the ties with our old school are very strong.
