ONE can only hope that the figures quoted in the article “Listed Police HQ put on the market” (D&S Times, Mar 4) about North Yorkshire Police’s Newby Hall are a misprint when you state: “The move to Alverton Court is estimated to be costing under £7m… but it is expected to save more than £4m over 30 years.”
To my schoolboy knowledge of financial management, it would appear that Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan is imposing a totally unnecessary financial burden of approaching £3m on the taxpayers of North Yorkshire just so she can fulfil one of her commitments.
I think that would have funded the much more representative police authority for quite a few years!
