I READ with interest about the retirement of Mike Keeble, the "voice of the shows" (D&ST, Aug 7). Having moved to Yorkshire 14 years ago, my partner and I have always followed the many country shows and wherever we went there was always this man with the lovely dulcet tones full of knowledge of every aspect of farming and the countryside. You just wanted to listen and learn.

This year at the shows we missed you, Mike – it just wasn't quite the same.

So sorry to hear you have been ill, but wish you well in your retirement.

Two or three years ago, we were in CB Furnishings in Northallerton and as we approached the cafe, I heard your voice. I think you and your wife were moving at the time. I just just had to come and say hello and tell you that someone, like me, who loves Yorkshire but knows very little about the farming scene has genuinely listened and learnt from you. Thank you.

You are to farming what Peter O'Sullivan was to horse racing – The Voice.
