Sir, – Who would have believed in a tiny village of less than 100 households so much talent could be nestled.

The village of Preston-under-Scar where a group of artists have, for over 20 years held an exhibition in the village hall had their annual exhibition on July 17, 18 and 19.

Each year our artists surpass the previous year and this one was no exception.

There was a plethora of talent to view in the collection of watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels depicting such subjects as local scenes, far away scenes and wildlife as well as abstracts and textile art and sculpture.

Upstairs in the village hall was a selection of crafts ranging from beautiful handmade bags, scarves, brooches and hats, cushions, semi-precious gem necklaces and hand sewn cards to name but a few.

A total of 30 paintings and many pieces from the art and craft exhibition were sold and a wonderful £270 raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by donations from the 388 visitors.

A visit is a must regardless of what type of art you prefer so keep your eyes peeled for next year's dates.
