ALWYN BOULBY mentions the Austin Devon (D&S Times, July 17), which was a 1948 two-door car. There was also a four-door version, the Dorset. These cars preceded the Somerset. They had floor-mounted long-throw gear levers.
The A70 Hereford was an update of the earlier Hampshire.
The large four cylinder engine in these cars was also fitted to the Atlantic coupe. The much later A60 was the Cambridge; earlier versions were the A50 and A55.
