THE approach of Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg to cannabis use is frightening (D&ST, July 24).

Was his policy in place before his meeting with the pro-cannabis activists or has it come about as a result of such meetings.

It matters not. This policy is just another example of how savage cuts to the police service are being dressed up as a process of reform and improvement.

Your readers should be under no illusion that this downgrading of criminal activity will spread as police resources are withdrawn.
