Darlington and Stockton Times: I

Carol Kirkwood, the nation's favourite weather girl

I AM sick and tired of tuning into the TV only to be treated to the same boring repeats time and time again, plus constant breakdowns only to be told to wait while some technical fix occurs.

It is a shambles and a disgrace.

I propose a solution. It is high time that the BBC had a signature tune, and I propose a song that was very popular some years ago and is utterly appropriate: “Little sir echo how do you do? Hello! Hello! You’re a fine little fellow I know by your voice but you’re always so far away.” The rest I can’t remember but it had a very happy melody with it.

There have been some good turns, both in the present and past. Dad’s Army has me falling out of my chair with laughter it is uncontrollable. I am quite helpless, so much so my wife thinks I’m going to have a fit! I have seen all the repeats and never miss one. I suppose that having served in the army brings back memories, yes I am laughing now.

Another great merry laughable show was Fawlty Towers, one of the greatest productions ever. It had me grinning and cringing at the same time and in the end roaring with happiness.

My third choice is Morecambe and Wise. They were unbelievable. Even as I am writing this, I have to giggle at their outrageous conduct, harmless but full of laughter, they really were a couple of wonders. Truly they were comedy kings we miss them.

Now, my final choice makes me feel young and eager again – she is a female! I melt every time I see her which is daily. She is Carol Kirkwood, the BBC Breakfast weather presenter. A beautiful face, a super figure, a delightful voice and wearing a lovely dress which says a lot but promises little – dam it! If only I was a daring pirate I would kidnap her and live happily forever.

Well, I can always dream. And she tops it with a smile that is sheer music.
