FOLLOWING the recent publicity regarding damage and cost of repair to Blakey Lane Bridge in Sowerby, in which drivers have been accused of moving the heavy blocks placed on the bridge to prevent large vehicles using it (D&S Times, July 10), have planners and councillors not considered that there is a simple solution.
There is a direct approach from Sowerby to the west, but from the east by a hair pin bend.
My memory as a former Thirsk district councillor was that there was, and probably still is, an area of undeveloped land to the east, which could be used to make a direct approach to the bridge, and reduce the damage, together with HGV restrictions.
HH Dyson, Romanby, Northallerton.
