THE short-sighted public transport planners do not appreciate the long and sometimes complicated journeys passengers make using more than one bus service and linking in to railway services.

It is with utter dismay that I have learnt of the proposed cuts to the bus services between Richmond and Northallerton. The only bus service (Number 54) that connects with Northallerton railway station is to be axed altogether, and the remaining service (Number 55), reduced to only three buses a day with the last bus to leave Richmond for Northallerton at 13.50 arriving at 14.30.

I travelled on the Number 54 yesterday, connecting with a train journey from York, and it was busy – passengers of all ages getting on and off all along the route.

Access to Northallerton, not only our county town but the hub to catch buses and trains to further destinations, is essential and should be safe guarded.
