FOOD snob Malcolm Warne should watch his table manners. His indigestible slur on Leyburn’s eateries (D&S Times, July 3), especially Giovanni’s, the former Italian restaurant which he admits having never eaten at, does nothing for his own over-cooked credentials or that of food journalism at the D&S.
Not everyone can chalk up evenings out to expense accounts and Leyburn offers visitors a spectrum of gastronomic choices to suit every taste and pocket at its pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways.
While self-styled foodies find it entertaining to disparage and ridicule small businesses (not intending “to be rude or dismissive”, of course) the majority will celebrate the town’s food diversity and find something that agrees with their palate and wallet in hospitable comfort.
