LOOKING at the picture of the Tornado F3 jet fighter which has been returned to its former base at RAF Leeming (D&S Times, June 26) brought back memories of when I was a 17-year-old driving a small cattle truck during the war.
One farm I used to visit was right in the middle of the aerodrome and it meant having to cross the main runway which could be quite a problem in the evening when the Halifaxs were taking off on their missions.
I always feared stalling – but never did.
One often wonders today how one would have coped!
