I WOULD like to re-assure NJ Sharpe (“Cycling Sinners”, D&S Times,June 26) that Leyburn Cycling, a group specifically for older riders, promotes safe and considerate behaviour when pedalling on roads in North Yorkshire.

Many of us wear lycra for practical reasons but none of us would be so daft as to use earphones while cycling. It is nice to chat while bowling along but we rarely ride two abreast and always go into single file when the last rider (usually me!) shouts "car".

I think larger clubs might use a two or even three abreast formation as they ride on each other's wheels.

We are responsible riders and don't wish to be tarred with the same brush as the few who aren't. Mr Sharpe would be most welcome to join us on a Thursday, if he is still on two wheels. Our age range is currently 55 to 78.

Sheila Simms, Leyburn.
