MY husband and I were sad to see our demise at the hands of your walks writer David Swabey (D&S Times, June 19), when he mentioned a seat at the top of Addlebrough.

The seat does not commemorate the memory of “MB & KME” – we are still alive, living in Askrigg and capable of walking to the mentioned seat.

The date on the seat, 2005, refers to the year we carried it up there to our fields.

With careful observation you will also find a corkscrew attached to a chain on the seat so anyone can open their bottle of Black Sheep, which they may have carried up there. There was also a dog bowl and a bottle of water, but sadly they have disappeared.

Should Mr Swabey walk down into the field to the west, still in open access, he would locate a stone man cairn and another seat with a later date on it. We assume this one must indicate our resurrection!

Yours still alive and kicking

MB and KM Empsall 2015, Askrigg.
