IT was heart-warming to read that a charity has been benefited through the television programme Benefits Street, especially considering all the adverse comments made by Stockton Borough Council about the programme.
However, it would be interesting to know how much the charity event that was held at Elton Moor Farm made (DST, May 22). Elton Moor Farm is between Fairfield, Stockton and Long Newton and held a country sport event (clay pigeon shooting) in aid of country charities – you could hardly hold such an event in the middle of Stockton.
Then, due to the local complainers, the organisers were fined approximately £1,500, for breaching a noise-abatement notice, which was probably more than was raised at the event.
In all my life – and I am 80-years-old – I have never heard of a charity being prosecuted. Maybe it is just particular to Stockton Borough Council – especially when the whole country's media had their eyes on the area because of the Benefits Street programme.
