Sir, – Under current immigration laws around 300,000 extra people come into this country every year. Over ten years this would add three million to the population. In other terms the equivalent of the combined populations of Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool.

Where could housing for such huge numbers possibly be built every ten years? The Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, or how about the likes of Exmoor and Dartmoor? I dare say under the current government the likes of the Downs and the New Forest would be ruled out, too close to home.

Transport, services and schools won't be able to cope. The NHS, already in crisis according to some politicians and doctors, would cease as we know it. By leaving the EU we could cut this figure by 80 per cent but it has to be done now.

The promise of a referendum in a few years is no good as the Establishment parties would band together and put all of their political might and media clout (just as they did in the Scottish independence vote) behind an in vote. We would be told scare-mongering stories such as we'd be unable to trade with Europe (rubbish), or we'd be isolated from the rest of the world (pardon?). The vast sums of money saved from not being in the EU could be put into the NHS and other essentials.

Finally, nobody ever asked me if I wanted England to be part of a German-led European state.
