Sir, – Sutton under Whitestonecliffe Parish Council and the Traffic Management Group would like to thank everyone who attended the recent public meetings about heavy lorries using Sutton Bank.

Following feedback from the public meetings, the parish council’s application has now been amended to state ‘prohibition of any lorry in excess of 7.5 tonnes, unless issued with a permit, e.g. for local and /or frequent operators’.

It is clear that many users of the A170 at Sutton Bank are concerned about their safety, damage to their property, and disruption to their businesses and private lives due to the frequency of blockages on the bank.

Blockages are primarily caused by HGV drivers, usually from afar, including Europe, who are unfamiliar with the hazards of Sutton Bank. Also, when blockages occur diversions result in traffic spilling over onto unsuitable narrow roads affecting surrounding villages.

We hope everyone who experiences delays and issues with Sutton Bank will demonstrate their support by signing the online petition at www.petitions24.com/tro_hgv_sutton_bank.

The Traffic Regulation Order application has now been finalised and posted to the highways authorities.

Cllr CAROLINE ARTINGSTOLL

Chairman, Sutton under Whitestonecliffe Parish Council.
