Sir, – I refer to the articles "Residents fight against more homes in village" and "Inspector slams council's plans for future of county" (D&S Times, Feb 27). This is the continuing story of how this small island country of ours is rapidly becoming over populated. The present population is more than 63 million.

I ask: when do we say this country is full up – 70 million, 80 million, 90 million? In my opinion it is full up now or perhaps if we concrete over all open land we can accommodate 100 million.

The infrastructure is already under strain (the prisons are already full) and what about resources of food, water and air quality and the resulting noise pollution of overcrowding?

Although I think this government is doing well in trying to reduce our national debt, it seems incapable of dealing or is unwilling to face our other major danger of overpopulation. If this means leaving the EU so be it, I think the future of this country is in grave danger.

So I am going to vote UKIP (and hope they overtake Labour).
