Sir, – Further to the letters on the Stokesley supermarket proposal I recall a question I asked at the well attended consultation exercise at the Town Hall.

The sites on display which were deemed unsuitable seemed to lack any real credibility at all and I wondered how bona-fide they were as genuine study options. This prompted me to ask the developer's representative whether they had approached the owner of the Mill Riggs site or whether he had approached them - an easy prospect given developer's profile in relation to the Cleveland Bridge site in Middlesbrough. His reply was that he preferred not to answer that question.

To me this spoke volumes and surely demonstrates that the alleged search for suitable sites around Stokesley and the consultation was a cover to give legitimacy to a pre-arranged, no doubt conditional, speculative deal.
