Sir,– My husband came home recently furious. He is working on a property in New Road, Richmond.

His van was parked on Castle Hill. He has been informed that to park there he must pay £12 for the first day and £5 for every following day. If for whatever reason he isn't there for a day he must start from scratch with another £12.

He worked on a property in the town for one year, without a problem. He is now being told he can't park to do his job in his own town. But of course, it's not our council, it's Scarborough telling him what he can do.

Who gets the money?

How do self-employed men carry that expense ( one week x £32) without passing it on to the customer?

I wonder how many of your readers would want to pay that on top of their bill.

Raising council tax, and making it difficult to earn the money to pay it – are we the only ones who think this is so wrong.
