Sir, – Last week Superior of Stokesley (Jennie Tillotson, chairwoman of Stokesley Conservative Association, D&S letters, Feb 13) informed us they had made the right choice of candidate for us all. I beg to differ, they made the right choice for their party. This is exactly the party political attitude that puts people off politics and voting.

Maybe what most people want is someone who will fight to save their local hospital services, fight to keep libraries, campaign for local schools, local jobs and affordable housing for local people?

Safe seats leave a large number of people feeling that their vote is worthless and the Stokesley chairwoman's attitude of we know better should be a wake up call to everyone eligible to vote to register and put their 'X' in a box because your vote does count.

Also, last week you gave a full page to the Tory candidate, will you be offering this to all the candidates?

Editor's note: Many correspondents raised the issue of coverage of the other candidates standing. When the election gets underway, all candidates will be profiled. Many have already had their views on a number of local issues reported.
