Sir, – I write in response to Robert Brown's letter (D&S, Feb 6) about Rishi Sunak.
Is he the "Right man". Absolutely. I am delighted to say Mr Brown could not be more wrong.
Following his selection, Mr Sunak immediately moved into the area and has worked tirelessly visiting as many farmers, business people and schools as humanly possible.
We, who were fortunate enough to be on the selection board were greatly impressed by the standard of the possible Parliamentary candidates. No one from "Tory High Command " influenced us in any way. I would suggest that it would be difficult to place such influence on a room filled with hundreds of people from every corner of this constituency.
We chose the most outstanding candidate. He and his family, when he is successful will live in North Yorkshire.
He is utterly dedicated to serving the people of North Yorkshire. May I suggest that you go to www.rishisunak.com for a taste of Mr. Sunak's activities. From Arkengarthdale to Bilsdale and Leyburn to Stokesley, from farming to manufacturing, Rishi has made it his mission to know this constituency, it's people and their issues.
It is insulting to those of us who selected Mr Sunak to suggest that we would be anyone's puppet. As Mr Brown so rightly said "only time will tell". I guarantee that the voters in Richmond will not be disappointed, we are enormously privileged to have such a splendid candidate to represent us.
