Sir, – I am contacting yourselves as I am curious as to whether any other readers feel as my husband does.

He has just returned from our local tip at Brompton-on-Swale after a trip to dump debris from decorating our kitchen, and other things from his garage. Among these were three and half broken tiles, when the attendant saw these he informed my husband that for tiles there was a charge per kilo, and ours would cost £ 2.50. Couldn't take cash had to be card. He wanted him to travel home to get his card four miles each way.

My husband has returned , and he is bouncing. Still has tiles. We paid for our garden bin to be emptied, we pay our council tax, even though we only get our roads gritted when, the bin men are due.

My husband is registered to use the tip as he is a joinery, and received a letter saying there would be a charge for plasterboard to be dumped. Enough is enough. I can see now why there is so much fly tipping. Why does the council have keep squeezing money from us? If they employed a company to manage the tip then they must have worked out it would be cost affective. Or do they think they can pass the book and wash their hands of it?
