Sir, – I refer to the article in the D&S in which you report that Richmondshire District Council's planning committee rejected plans for a block of flats in Richmond.
Whilst design was quoted as “not in keeping” and there being a “lack of parking” I cannot but feel the shameful NIMBYism radiating from this decision.
Having seen Leyburn suffer questionable decisions on planning in recent years where design and parking issues were raised but Richmondshire's planning committee ignored concerns and granted applications, I suggest the builders appeal to to the minister Eric Pickles.
The prospect of a contested action was sufficient to persuade Richmondshire to reverse previous decisions and grant such a questionable proposal here.
