Sir, – I refer to your report about the retail park development at Scotch Corner (D&S, Dec 26).
The white elephants are charging down the high street again, dazzling the planners with this massive development.
The average buyer is not interested in designer handbags and glamour items. Their requirements are already adequately met by existing shops, not to mention the new retail development being built at Catterick Garrison.
Where does this foolish development end, most probably with more boarded up shops in Richmond and other towns.
Additionally, there is already considerable traffic congestion at Scotch Corner without making it much worse leading to tailbacks on the A1. It could even clog lane three of the new build
When this planning application comes before councillors we should oppose it, otherwise we could all be losers in the long run.
WILLIAM ROBOTHAM
Barton, Richmond.
