Sir, – I would wish to draw the attention of your readers to the ongoing library consultation in North Yorkshire.

There still seem to be some communities which have not grasped what is happening – and time is running out. The consultation closes at the end of this month.

If members of the public are worried about the plans of North Yorkshire County Council for the stripping out of almost all regular library staff from their libraries would they please ask their town councils to arrange a public meeting with North Yorkshire County Council; write letters to the county council; complete the consultation forms – available from libraries or online – and visit and write a contribution at

"Save North Yorkshire Libraries" http://ny-libraries.org.

If any North Yorkshire resident is prepared to help send round a petition or can provide information on their local campaign or would like to know of events/meetings planned in their area or collaborate in any way on this please would they send me their name, address, or phone number so I can let them have copies of the petition?

This has to be drafted, circulated and sent in to the county council by the end of January.
