Sir, – I have heard that between 75 and 80 per cent of the public do not think that councillors or MPs act in the best interests of their constituents.
More than two years ago you reported that Richmondshire District Council had to pay out more than £500,000 in compensation to a care worker because the council had unfairly dismissed her.
In the intervening time I have asked Cllr John Blackie, Leader of the Council, what action he is going to take. I have also asked the local offices of the Conservative, Liberal Democratic, Labour, UKIP and Green parties, as well as our MP.
None of them have replied, yet in about six months’ time these political parties will be asking us to vote for them. My conclusion is that it does not matter who you vote for, the status quo will be maintained and the competence of Richmonfdshire's managers will not be challenged.
