Sir, – The picture "From Our Archive" (D&S Times Weekend Times, Oct 3) evoked fine memories for me.
The photograph is of our choir and myself in a very windswept playground in Gunnerside school in 1995.
The children had expressed a desire to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research by recording a collection of Victorian Sunday School hymns.
We borrowed the chapel harmonium – carried to school by a group of boys – and we gathered round it to practise.
As I remember, the youngest child was only four years old and each member had a beautifully clear voice, quite suited to the hymns.
And where are they now? I expect most of them, nineteen years on, have children if their own. I wonder if they are put to bed with 'Jesus bids us shine'?
It would be interesting to reassemble the choir to record another album.
I think I can just about manage to play the guitar still and it would be fun – as long as they behave themselves!
