Sir, – I attended the Skeeby Parish Meeting on September 25 with Cllr Heseltine in attendance - on the agenda speed cushions. Cllr Heseltine gave his resume on his travelling experiences noting speed procedures in other countries.

On my journeys around the local villages there seems to be no uniformity with the parish councils.

For example, travelling from Richmond our 30mph sign is situated at the entrance of the village resulting in drivers breaking hard to the requested speed limited.

Take a look at Middleton Tyas and another layout due to the school I presume. Approaching Hurworth from Darlington you are made aware well in advance of the 30mph zone, then you pass through a chicane to the village.

Enter Neasham still on the 30mph zone you are reminded again by the matrix board on your journey speed. Enter from the other end of the village and you have to negotiate another chicane.

Enter Low Dinsdale where there is another chicane and a well-marked road.

Matrix boards are used by many Parish Councils. My question again, why not us?

I am sure the attendance at this meeting does not represent the concern of the Skeeby residents. I was under the impression that our parish council had power to make a serious challenge on behalf of the village to look again for another solution to speed cushions. There is nothing soft as you drive over them. Remember the rock and roll years; now we have rock and shake. Over to the Skeeby committee.
