Sir, – A big thank you and well done to David Beadle from Shildon who completed the Great North Run in one hour 44 mins and so far has raised over £600 for The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital Volunteer Car Service. David’s father John Beadle is one of the 15 volunteer drivers based at DMH who provide transport to needy patients in and out of hospital giving both their time and use of their own cars receiving a small payment to cover fuel and running costs. These volunteers do an exceptional job for patients living in Darlington and the wider rural areas who do not need an ambulance but otherwise have travel to hospital difficulties Last year they looked after over 7,000 patients and travelled 284,000 miles. David’s efforts and very valuable contribution to help offset the costs of the service is greatly appreciated.
ALAN CHARLTON MBE
Chairman, The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital.
