Sir, – Regarding the crossing known as Five Lane Ends in Bedale (D&S report, Aug 29), I had been to the doctors on August 21 on Firby Road.
On starting to come out of Firby Road, we had a lucky escape. From the left, round the bend came a small car at high speed with the lady driver on her mobile phone.
Thanks to my husband's quick reactions, we managed to stop.
If we hadn't stopped when we did she would have hit two and a half tons of 4X4. Need I say more.
