Sir, – The letters which have appeared in the D&S Times over a long period about the speed humps in Skeeby have been most entertaining, particularly to those who only use this road from time to time.

So time to do something constructive. A fully expensed jolly to Portugal for all Skeeby Parish councillors, relevant councillors from North Yorkshire County Council and those from the county council's Highways department is required.

Keeping off the main motorways and using ordinary main roads they will pass through many villages, just like Skeeby, which need to limit the speed of through traffic to allow inhabitants to enjoy a safe lifestyle.

These villages have one or two sets of traffic lights which are radar-activated by any traffic which exceeds the 50kmph speed limit (30mph). Stick to the limit and you drive through with no delay. Exceed the limit and you find yourself sat and going nowhere at a red light for about 20 seconds. The message soon sinks in. Seemples.

But probably too complicated a solution for the good folk of North Yorkshire.
