Sir, – While I am happy for Michael Fenwick and Michael Heseltine to "slug it out" in your letters page about how the Skeeby bumps came in to existence, I am much more interested in finding a solution to the current situation.

We recently returned from a 900-mile-plus family holiday around Britain where we encountered very many road calming measures. No "ouch's" or cries of pain were were heard till we came through Skeeby.

I went into James Cook University Hospital for orthopedic surgery the next day.

After five days, incidentally of skilled surgery and very good care, I faced the Skeeby's dreaded unyielding bumps. It was not fun.

Mr Fenwick certainly has one thing right, it is ridiculous that HGVs and buses can move through the village at 40 mph while small and medium cars are not comfortable even at 10 mph.

My heartfelt cry is "what can we do to change things". The bottom line is that the bumps are not doing what was intended and are causing much discomfort and irritation. This situation must be addressed and will not just go away.
