Sir, – Mrs Waudby (D&S letters, Aug 15) raises a number of issues about the rollout of broadband in North Yorkshire.
The Superfast North Yorkshire project (led by North Yorkshire County Council) is responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of this task. We have recently completed a survey of North Yorkshire similar to that proposed for Durham – details are available on our website www.superfastnorthyorkshire.com.
I can reassure Mrs Waudby there is nothing wrong at the Leyburn exchange and that the work she has witnessed taking place in Middleham is the necessary preparatory work that BT needs to undertake to "fibre" a community. Middleham is scheduled to go "live" for superfast before the end of November 2014.
Given Mrs Waudby’s concerns about lack of information I can advise that we have already been in contact with colleagues in Richmondshire District Council and the local town council to make sure the SFNY publicity material is being correctly circulated. I apologise if we have inadvertently "missed" Mrs Waudby but SFNY will make sure that Middleham residents are made fully aware once the service has gone live.
