Sir, – It is regrettable that you chose to publish Robert Paley's deeply offensive letter about unwelcome visitors to his antique shop in Hawes ("Dales Disneyland", August 15).
Mr Paley complains that people visit his shop merely to entertain themselves and comments how many are 'ill-clad and often obese'.
It might help him out if he were to affix a notice to his shop door advising that the overweight and or badly-dressed were not to be admitted.
Alternatively, he could take the more humane approach of the cartoon character Brother Sebastian. Having mowed his already immaculate lawn the kindly monk stuck a notice on the edge of the grass saying "Trespassers will be forgiven".
ANN PILLING
Gayle, Hawes.
