Sir, – I refer to Cllr Heseltine's letter about the Skeeby humps (D&S, August 8).

I am appalled that a councillor can make such scurrilous statements.

Where is the misinformation, "the innuendos and abuse" which I am alleged to have written, on more than one occasion, no less?

I have written five letters in total to the D&S Times, none of which have included any misinformation, innuendos or abuse.

If he thinks I am not serious about road safety in Skeeby then, clearly, he has not been reading the D&S Times properly since 28.1.11. Additionally, is he not aware of my protracted involvement with an assistant director of North Yorkshire County Council on the subject of speed humps and road safety in Skeeby? Perhaps his "professionals" have omitted to aquaint him with this as it could cause them embarrassment. If he is aware, then he is being grossly disingenuous.

He states that “In all the history of this issue, successive parish councils and I have listened to and accepted the advice of the professionals”. Well, Cllr Heseltine's "professionals" have had 13 years to sort this problem and have failed to stop the speeding – hence my serious suggestion of drafting in Norfolk County Council to sort the problem.

I have twice written that it was high time a grown up, transparent, truthful and open discussion was had between the Skeeby villagers, other interested members of the public and North Yorkshire County Council on this subject.

Will he kindly arrange this and make sure it is well publicised in the area (not just on the village notice board), well before the event.

I see no point in meeting with him privately, this is a community-wide problem and anything I have to say I am more than happy to say in a public meeting. In view of the history, I think it appropriate that a senior executive of North Yorkshire County Council should be present.

This problem is not going away and needs sorting urgently.

Finally, Cllr Heseltine, my name is Donald, not David.
