Sir, – Having read the report of the Skeeby Parish Council meeting (D&S, July18) I would make the following observations: It was noted that once again none of the objectors were in attendance to engage in the discussion.

It is clear from the report that Cllr Heseltine had arrived at the meeting, as in the past, with no intention of altering his stance of listening to the discussion and then repeating his mantra that the cushions would stay. So why should anyone waste their time listening to the same dictatorial utterances from someone who seems incapable of understanding what so many people have pointed out both at such meetings and in the D&S.

I would point out that in my letter in the D&S (June 13) I said it was high time that a grown up, transparent, truthful and open discussion was had between the Skeeby villagers, other interested members of the public and North Yorkshire County Council on this subject.

I am still waiting Cllr Heseltine, but not holding my breath. I have spent a considerable amount of time in north Norfolk over the last six years and observed traffic on both the A148 and A149 which both run from Kings Lynn to Cromer and on which there are a few speed cameras but where every village has matrix boards and I have yet to see anyone blatantly exceeding the speed limit. As the ‘experts’ in North Yorkshire County Council seem unable to resolve the problem of blatantly speeding trucks and buses as well as some larger cars, perhaps Norfolk County Council should be drafted in to sort the problem.

DONALD HARKER Skeeby.
