Sir, – Enough is enough. While the Tour de France was a great day for an excuse to party, there was little choice with the road closures, and I wonder how different it would have been if the day had been pouring with rain?

I have to commute the ‘route’ to work, and for months I have had to suffer numerous wanna-be cyclists from across the UK and beyond cycling the route between Leyburn and Ripon.

These small narrow country roads are just too narrow for cyclists – with tight bends, one after another, and short sight lines makes these roads dangerous for cyclists, as stated by the German cycle champion prior to the race.

Occasionally, I would come across two cyclists riding side by side, when I gave then a friendly toot in my car to be able to pass all I got was a two finger sign. The arrogance was unbelievable.

Well now it’s all over, I would like to see all the yellow cycles taken down, numerous illegal markings actually on the road surfaces removed by the council, and to return our lovely county to what it was before.

It would seem that a significant number of people that were for the Tour de France were business people, or people hoping to make a profit from it. Well what about the residents of North Yorkshire? What is their view?

I certainly would not like to see another annual event of cycle racing held in North Yorkshire again, which is what being proposed. It is a pity that there is not a ‘No Campaign’ website where the ‘quiet majority’ can place their views. If you feel like I do, then write into the paper here!

Go play in another county and give us back our rural way of life.

CHRIS GREEN Leyburn.
