Sir, – Spending millions of pounds of public money on Le Tour was supposed to bring a great boost to the county.

A vast amount of taxpayers’ cash was spent. All to attract people to stand at the roadside and gawp at passing cyclists.

Now the cyclists and gawpers have departed, can we consider the benefits. Money to retain services at the Friarage?

No chance. Something to save bus routes in the Dales? Not likely. A reduction in parking charges?

Dream on.

Am I alone in thinking – what was all the fuss about?

Was it money well spent and what the hell happened to all those yellow bicycles?
