Sir, – I would like to address the letter written by Paul Lazenby (D&S, July 11), wherein he refers to a set of mealy-mouthed whingers.

Obviously, anyone who doesn’t subscribe to his agenda fits this bill.

Also, he very unkindly made a odious reference to a public schoolboy, suggesting he was an overgrown immature lad using posh words. On what grounds does he base his assumptions?

Perhaps he resents the fact that the lad is a public schoolboy, and maybe he doesn’t like wellspoken people.

Might I suggest that we live side by side in a democracy where everyone is entitled to their opinions, and to agree to disagree. I am sure that all those who were not necessarily as enthusiastic as Mr Lazenby about the race will be delighted that it was such a success, particularly for those who worked so hard to make it so.

However, for some people, the beauty of the Dales in which people like myself live is surpassed only by the quality of peace that goes with it. That is indeed a cause worth fighting for.

(Mrs) E MUSGRAVE Redmire, Leyburn.
