Sir, – Let us not under-estimate the fantastic achievement of Welcome To Yorkshire (WTY) in bring the Tour de France to Yorkshire and showcasing the Dales and its stunning scenery to 190 countries around the world.

It is now time to recognise what Gary Verity and his team have done for our great county. Tourism is worth millions to our economy here in North Yorkshire and it most definitely needed the boost Le Tour brought and I’m certain the legacy will be felt for many years to come.

I would now like to call for one regional economic agency to drive forward our long-term economy and regeneration here in Yorkshire and that agency is WTY.

It is time to get rid of all the local enterprise partnerships (LEPS) which have provided nothing for small business growth here in Yorkshire.

Give the millions of pounds of economic growth funds to Gary Verity, who has the vision know-how and passion here in Yorkshire and let’s make Yorkshire a place to do business.

A massive well done to Gary Verity and I hope the deserved knighthood is forthcoming in the new year.

ANDY BROOK Middleham.
