Sir, – I read Mr Hoylake’s letter (D&S, July 4) concerning a group put together to formulate ideas for the future of Thirsk Market Place and found myself agreeing with much he said.
I recognise the need to have committees in order to speed up decision making, but can see no need whatsoever for them to be “secret groups”.
My feelings are that as the trees were removed in such a questionable way and as yet this action has not been fully explained nor apologised for. Any further dealings regarding the Market Place must be transparent and accountable. This will be difficult to achieve by setting up a “secret group” to plan its future.
Would it be so difficult to name those involved and any affiliations they have? I think it only right that Thirsk residents should be assured that consideration has been given to cover all interests and that there is a range of expertise among those selected to ensure that at the end of the process we have a Market Place that is fitting for Thirsk and that its residents are happy with.
LESLEY ROLFE St James Green, Thirsk.
