Sir, – It is claimed the monstrous proposed development at Scotch Corner will create new jobs, but how many jobs will be lost in nearby high streets and market towns, which will inevitably suffer a loss of business?

People will not suddenly have extra cash to spend and they can only spend their money once. We should support our already struggling high streets and local businesses, which create jobs for local people, not multi- national companies. Thriving high streets are vital for people who are unable to drive.

Encouraging people to drive to Scotch Corner is not very “green”.

Motorways should be for long distance travel, not shopping trips.

Good farmland will be lost forever.

The planners should support our market towns and not be bullied by big businesses into approving this soulless development. If the aim is develop a site with new jobs, it should be manufacturing jobs near to where people live.
