Sir, – Your report of a recent Hawes and High Abbotside Parish Council meeting (D&S, June 2) referred to the land owner of Stags Fell refusing permission for the positioning of a bicycle outline on Stags Fell in relation to the Tour de France.
This is totally inaccurate as the TDF working group had not asked for any such permission.
A request for permission was received by the owners on Saturday, June 14 and within four days permission was granted with the consent of Natural England as the land is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The land owners and Natural England were delighted to accommodate the bicycle outline and pulled out all the stops to facilitate all the arrangements.
