Sir, – I was sorry Mr Lewis of Bedale did not enjoy his night at the Barn Rock (D&S letters, June 20), but perhaps his expectations were a little high.

Firstly it is set in a barn, secondly the bands are all amateurs, and acoustics in a barn that size are difficult to control, and thirdly he paid £12.50, most of which would go to charity, which is what the night was all about.

If he wanted a pitch-perfect sound there are plenty of rock concerts with professional artists and sounds but he would pay a lot more than he did for this one, and that money would not go to local charities.

The whole point of this night is to raise money for charity, Mr and Mrs Fall put a lot of effort into making this night a charity success, along with a lot of their own money decorating and providing seating and insurance etc.

This is its fourth year so they must be doing something right – but then you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Perhaps Mr Lewis should look at the bigger picture, which is raising money for charity.

ANN RUSSELL Snape, Bedale
