Sir, – I fully agree with the comments by Mr Elliot regarding the reinstallation of speed cushions in Skeeby.

I am one of the drivers who now avoids this route and instead goes to Richmond via Gilling or Brompton. I have suffered broken springs on two of my vehicles because I had to drive over unavoidable speed bumps and as I practise car sympathy, meaning I avoid potholes, sunken manholes etc, I knew the said bumps had caused this damage. Luckily I was near home and not on the open road with dreaded consequences.

I and my wife have physical problems and however slow I go, we still get a nasty bump. I have been supervising civil engineering works in Skeeby and Whitefields, being responsible for my sub contractors safety, so I do know the area.

Indeed we looked at houses on Whitefields many years ago, knowing how well built they were, but just too expensive for us at the time.

I would like to know how the council can discriminate against the drivers of small vehicles because as Mr Elliot states we are the only vehicles affected. Mr Elliot hits the nail on the head when he says other vehicles are not affected.

Indeed not many years ago I was photographing the poppies in a field off a lane in Skeeby when I watched large vehicles coming down the bank and some of them were certainly exceeding the speed limit. I am sure there are ways of stopping speeding without penalising innocent drivers.
