Sir, – I was surprised reading that foie gras was still being sold in the shops (D&S letters, March 28) as it had been banned from being produced in this country, but I fail to see how one can compare it to broiler chicken.
At a few days old they are housed in warm spotlessly clean sheds and shaving covered floors. They feed themselves naturally on a high quality diet and are ready for the table in seven weeks.
On the assembly line in the factory they are briefly stunned electronically before having their throats cut giving them a painless death which is more than can be said for some species.
