Sir, – I have read the recent letters (Mar 21) regarding the horrendous speed humps on the A6108 at Skeeby and like the previous correspondents I find them difficult to drive over without receiving a serious jolt causing severe discomfort and possible damage to my vehicle’s tracking, tyres and suspension.

It matters not what speed you travel over them. I’ve tried to go over them from five mph to 25mph and on all occasions I’ve been badly shaken.

I can recall the village of Skeeby having a speed limit of 40mph and during that time there were very few accidentss and when there was one it was usually minor in nature.

Then, quite rightly, the speed limit was reduced to 30mph but, shortly afterwards, there was a serious accident near the bridge and suddenly the speed humps were introduced.

After numerous complaints about their height and size, they were reduced and were fairly comfortable to drive over. Through wear and tear and flooding they were damaged and removed.

They were not replaced for a fairly long time and there appeared to be no problems regarding speeding but they’ve been suddenly replaced and are worse than ever for motorists with small to medium sized cars. They do not cause any problems to HGVs, PSVs or large cars who can pass over them without difficulty.

It seems to me rather strange that at a time when the roads of North Yorkshire have a large number of potholes which are not being adequately repaired, North Yorkshire County Council can find money to fund these speed humps.

Both the potholes and the speed humps cause motorists discomfort and damage to their vehicles.
