Valuable pub

10:49am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – The planning application we feared has now happened: for the conversion of the Travellers’ Rest public house at Skeeby to form a single dwellinghouse.

Crime pledge

10:50am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – The Government once said that it would be “Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime”, however, the reality of life under Labour is very different.

Sorry tale

10:50am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – Having made a recent visit to Holland, the lack of attention to detail and customer service in our public transport system is not good enough in comparison.

Get together

10:51am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – While it is understandable that Tesco does not wish to handle everybody’s cardboard waste, it is pretty silly to expect would-be recyclers to separate Tesco cardboard from non- Tesco cardboard, and it is also fairly clear that the Tesco site is an excellent location to assist and encourage our recycling effort.

Too complicated

10:56am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – The squabble over money between South Tees Hospitals and the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust and cuts at the Northallerton Friarage Hospital are annual events.

A load of rubbish

10:51am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I read with disgust the situation as regards cardboard recycling at Tesco Thirsk (D&S, Feb 19).

From Mexico

10:52am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – Shopping in Bedale recently, I picked up a bunch of spring onions. Imagine my surprise when I discovered those seven or eight little onions had come all the way from Mexico. I put them back.

Lost voices

10:54am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – A seemingly innocuous consultation could signal the end of having your voice heard at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, including on the planning committee which makes so many decisions that impact on everyday life in the Dales.

Duty of care

10:55am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I read with interest the Osmotherley Area Parish Council report (D&S, Feb 26), especially the part concerning the lack of duty of care to the elderly residents in a private estate owned by Broadacres Housing.

Keep writing

10:57am Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I should like to encourage Christopher Loader, a student at Northallerton College, for putting his thoughts on paper, about his idea for the future of shopping in, or in this case, just outside Northallerton (D&S letters, Feb 12).
