ACCOUNTANT John Chilton is going full throttle to keep his newest client's finances in order.
The lifelong speedway fan, works for Middlesbrough-based chartered accountants Chipchase Manners, which has just been appointed by the Redcar Bears.
He is already accountant to several past and present Bears stars, including former world champion Gary Havelock and his father, Bears' manager Brian Havelock.
"It's the ultimate labour of love for me," said Mr Chilton, who has supported the Bears for more than 30 years and was once part of a six-strong fans' consortium that owned the speedway team when it was known as the Middlesbrough Bears based at Cleveland Park.
Today, the Redcar Bears are one of the best-supported teams in British speedway's Premier League, regularly attracting crowds of over 1,000 to the South Tees Motorsports Park on the edge of Middlesbrough.
Mr Chilton became hooked on speedway as a teenager when he was dragged along to a meeting by a relative.
"It's one of the great spectator sports - lots of fast and furious action, but rival fans stand side by side without a hint of animosity," he said.
Chipchase Manners is one of the biggest independent accountancy practices in the Tees Valley area.
It carries out accounts preparation, audit, taxation and business advisory and support services, on behalf of more than 1,000 businesses, ranging from small traders to £30m turnover companies.
